85°C Bakery Cafe, a Taiwanese-style bakery and coffee shop, is now open in Washington Plaza at 1299 Washington Avenue.  Taking over the vacancy left by Payless Shoes, this  new store continues a series of upgrades in the downtown shopping center, following the arrival of Bonchon Korean fried chicken and the interior renovation of McDonald’s.

In 2003, Mr. Cheng-Hsueh Wu paid a visit to a cafe in a 5-star hotel and while enjoying gourmet pastries and drinks, he came to the realization that the prices were not reasonably priced for the average consumer. This was the foundation of Mr. Wu’s vision to establish a cafe that provides premium coffee, bread, and pastries at affordable prices. Consequently, Mr. Wu founded the 85°C Bakery Cafe. Today, 85°C has grown to over 1,000 locations worldwide with the first U.S. store having opened in 2008 in Irvine, CA . With the quick growth and extensive exposure on Yelp and in the media, 85°C Bakery Cafe has become a culinary phenomenon and a unique cafe experience that is attainable for all.

The name is derived from the conviction that coffee holds its flavor best at a steady temperature of 85 degrees Celsius. The name 85°C symbolizes a devotion to provide coffee of the highest quality. Each cup of coffee is individually brewed with Guatemalan coffee beans for a smooth, rich taste. All drinks are handcrafted and made to order.

Each store features an in-shop bakery with over 50 varieties of pastries baked fresh hourly. 85°C’s gourmet cakes are uniquely crafted by award-winning master chefs. They strive to bring customers the best products possible by paying careful attention to every detail which may affect its taste.

85°C Bakery Cafe is currently in its ‘soft opening’ phase, and plans a Grand Opening Event at 9AM on Friday, September 6, 2019.
