Join us in welcoming Atelier Colibri Patisserie, a new French pastry shop, to Pelton Plaza this Saturday, January 5, 2019, starting at 11 AM.  There you can sample classic macarons, tarts, creme puffs, as well as the latest in pastry creations – cruffins (croissants baked in a muffin mold, then stuffed with pastry cream, buttercream, jam, or fruit).

When owner Lori Hawkins moved to San Leandro three years ago, she quickly noticed an opportunity and interest in artisanal food shops in the area and began to pursue her dream of opening her own patisserie. Translated as hummingbird workshop, Atelier Colibri Patisserie is named after the many hummingbirds she sees around San Leandro.

Lori has done a significant amount of work on the space, which previously was used as tax service office. “They didn’t even have hot water!,” said Lori, whose contractor has transformed the space into a stylish retail space with an ample pastry kitchen in the back. Lori also participated in the City’s Business Incentive Program to help get her business off the ground. The shop is take-out only, and will be operated by Lori herself. Hours of operation will be Wednesday through Saturday, from 11 AM until 7:30 PM, and Sunday, from 10 AM until 6:30 PM.

The concept is classic French pastries, using organic ingredients, and adopting the European palette of less sweet, more buttery flavors than is typical in the U.S. Customers will see an array of classic pastries, including macarons, tarts, and roulades, but Lori also highly recommends her cruffins. Borrowing from her Chinese background, Lori also infuses some of her macarons with black sesame, green tea, and lemongrass for a unique fusion experience.

Atelier Colibri Patisserie is already getting positive press.  You can learn more about Lori and the shop in this article in East Bay Express,  as well as SF Eater.  The shop is located at 138 Pelton Center Way and will begin its soft opening at 11 AM this Saturday.
