Popular Korean fried chicken restaurant Bonchon has opened in Washington Plaza in Downtown San Leandro.  Since Sushi Musashi closed last year, San Leandrans have been eagerly anticipating the new restaurant slated to take its place at 1275 Washington Avenue.

With a name that translates to “my hometown,” the South Korean-originated chicken chain offers Asian-style wings, drumsticks and strips. Their made-to-order wings are double fried and tossed in either soy-garlic, spicy, or half-and-half sauce.  Korean and pan-Asian dishes like takoyaki, kimchi pancakes, potstickers and soy-garlic calamari, are available as appetizers. Those wanting a more substantial meal can choose from several familiar Korean entrees like bibimbap, japchae and bulgogi with rice.

The San Leandro Bonchon is the fourth location to open in the Bay Area, with over 50 locations in the US and over 200 locations internationally.  The critically-acclaimed restaurant has been listed on a number of ‘best of’ lists, including CNN’s Best Chicken Wings in the Country.  Bonchon joins other exciting new restaurants in Downtown, including Shabu House, Sons of Liberty Alehouse, Kendejah, and Maejoo.

Bonchon is now in a soft opening phase, while they work out the kinks, with a grand opening coming soon.  They have invested over $200,000 into building a modern new dining room, which features contemporary, industrial style chairs and tables, graphic art wall-decor, and large flat screens for sports lovers. Bonchon is open for lunch and dinner.
