The City of San Leandro, in partnership with Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) and ABG Art Group, is happy to announce that portfolios are being considered for a public mural to be installed at the Downtown San Leandro BART station.  ABG Art Group will be accepting portfolios from Greater San Francisco Bay Area mural artists who are interested in exhibiting their artwork on a highly visible wall. The mural will be installed on the substation building located in the North parking lot of the Downtown San Leandro BART station. Prior to installation, the building will undergo some maintenance.

This mural will be the sixth public mural installed in San Leandro since 2014, following other murals installed across from BART at San Leandro Blvd and West Estudillo Ave, Marina Blvd adjacent to I-880 (see image above), at Williams and Merced Sts, and two near Farnsworth St. and Manor Blvd.  You can watch a video on the mural program and view all of the public art in San Leandro on our Public Art Webpage.

By installing public art throughout San Leandro, we create a platform for storytelling and communication, transforming unattractive, obtrusive spaces into vibrant art pieces and a topic of interest for the community. The first several mural installations have enjoyed great success and much positive feedback, and the City is pleased to continue the mural art program at this location.

Apply now! Submissions are due by June 3, 2019.

i was actually talking to my friend about a month ago as to how they should have artwork on this very same spot. Glad to see someone else had the same idea! Looking forward to the final product

  3. Thank you to Staff, particularly Economic Development Staff, for continuing to inspire, fund and install significant outdoor murals in our City! Having a platform for story-telling, transforming blank slates into a subject for discussion, is so important for a City undergoing transformation. This particular mural has been under discussion since 2015 – glad to see it is finally becoming real!
