ABAG Public-Private Partnership AwardThe City of San Leandro, along with its nonprofit developer partner, BRIDGE Housing Corporation, received the
Public-Private Partnership Award” at the Association of Bay Area Government’s (ABAG) 2015 Growing Smarter Together Awards ceremony on April 23, 2015.  The City and BRIDGE were honored for their long-standing and strong working relationship on Marea Alta, the 200 unit affordable rental housing development currently under construction across from the San Leandro BART Station.

ABAG annually recognizes local government achievement particularly in regards to sustainable and transit-oriented development and policies. The City and BRIDGE were acknowledged for guiding Marea Alta towards over a seven year planning period that included withstanding the 2008 recession and 2012 demise of redevelopment agencies by the State.

“The relationship between the City and BRIDGE epitomizes an ideal public-private partnership where two parties are on the same page and work unwaveringly towards common goals while overcoming significant challenges along the way”, said Mayor Pauline Russo Cutter, who accepted the award on the City’s behalf at the ceremony.

Phase 1 of Marea Alta has been under construction since December 2014 and will contain 115 units of affordable workforce and family housing with one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom units. Amenities include a ground floor childcare center, multi-level underground parking garage which includes BART parking and a lobby area, a publicly accessible paseo, and a small ground floor retail space. Phase 1 is projected to be completed by May 2016.  Phase 2, which will have 85 affordable senior rental units, is expected to start construction in late 2016.
