COVID-19 Novel Coronavirus

This page will be updated regularly as information becomes available.

The City of San Leandro is closely following the developments around COVID-19 (‘Coronavirus’). We care deeply about all of the members of our community and take the evolving nature of the coronavirus very seriously. The City is focused on providing public services, while also closely following the recommendations of the world’s leading health organizations and implementing continuity plans. We are taking the appropriate steps and continue to actively monitor the impact the virus may have on the community.

The City continues to assess the impacts of COVID-19 on City operations. Mayor Cutter announced that her annual State of the City address has been postponed to a future date yet to be determined. All large public gatherings at City facilities are also being postponed or cancelled, and other smaller events may be impacted as well. Check our website at www.sanleandro.org for the latest updates.

The health and safety of the community is our highest priority. In light of recent events related to coronavirus (COVID-19) and the Shelter In Place ordered by the Alameda County Health Official, effective March 17, 2020, City Hall is closed. Non-essential services have been suspended through April 7, 2020, unless otherwise extended.

NEWS: On Thursday, March 16, 2020, Mayor Pauline Cutter and the San Leandro City Council announced the new COVID-19 Small Business Continuity Grant Program, offering relief to small businesses that demonstrate negative impacts as a result of the COVID-19 shutdown with a one-time capital infusion of up to $5,000. Click HERE for more information on this program, and how to apply. Applications are due by 5:00 PM on Monday, April 27, 2020.

On Monday, March 23, 2020, the San Leandro City Council unanimously passed an urgency ordinance with the goal of temporarily halting evictions for non-payment of rent due to a substantial loss of income because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The new rules are effective immediately and remain in place through May 31, 2020 or the expiration of the local emergency or the Governor’s proclamation of a state of emergency, whichever is later. The ordinance provides all commercial and residential tenants, including mobile home tenants and recreational vehicle owners, a defense in an eviction proceeding for failure to pay rent. Follow this link to learn more about the moratorium.

As this is an evolving situation, City staff will practice diligence in keeping the public informed on future developments.

Alameda County has been included in the Small Business Administration Economic Loss Declaration for businesses impacted by COVID-19. We will share specific instructions on how impacted businesses can apply to receive low interest loans from the SBA. The SBA will work directly with businesses on applications and SBA will determine qualifications.
