On March 14, 2016 Business Development staff presented an Economic Development Update to the City Council, providing an overview of recent economic activity and trends, as well as the impact of ongoing and future developments in San Leandro. The update looked at how economic factors have changed, and in most cases improved, since the depths of the recession in 2010.  This is the first in a series of three posts designed to provide a snapshot of San Leandro’s current economic status. Seems to me that if unemployment reduces to 5.1 from 11.2% that’s more than 6% or did I miss something?

  2. TW Judge says:

Yes…. Either bad math or bad writing. A drop in the unemployment rate from 11.2% to 5.1% represents a decrease of 54.46%, but nobody measures movement in unemployment rates that way. (Or, since “nobody” is a fairly absolute term and so should be avoided, I should say “very few” individuals measure movement in unemployment rates that way.) I suspect that what the author meant was that unemployment figures dropped by over 6 percentage points during the period in question.

Which, of course, is good news.

Despite all the focus on attracting tech jobs to San Leandro, it looks like there was very little change in the # of tech jobs since 2010.

bothersome to inform the reality then again I’ll surely come back again.
