This Sunday, October 7th, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., the 18th annual Sausage & Suds Music Festival will take over Parrott Street between E. 14th Street and Washington Avenue in Downtown San Leandro. The beer and wine garden will offer 45 selections of beers and wines (including from San Leandro breweries Cleophus Quealy, Drake’s Brewing Company, and 21st Amendment Brewery), and a host of food vendors will offer delicious fare, most notably sausage. The “Chill Zone” is back again this year, offering children’s games, face-painting, a photo booth, and a performance by Ukulenny.

As always, DC Dance Center will kick off the entertainment on the main stage with a Zumba! session. This year’s music lineup consists of the San Leandro High School Marching Band, the Midnites, Hella FitzgeraldBang Data, and returning favorites the Spazmatics will be wrapping up the festival. As in past years, all proceeds support the series of FREE events produced by the San Leandro Downtown Association.

Admission to the event is free, but if you wish to take part in the wine or beer you will need to purchase a commemorative glass for $20 (which includes two pours). Additional pours may be purchased for $5 each. Come, enjoy, and as always, please drink responsibly!

I think it is wrong to charge someone $20 for a beer, even 2, even including the glass….If I only want one beer, and have no use for a $20 glass, I have to bring my own or go to the nearest bar, (or liquor store)..
how do you serve soft drinks or wine?

  2. Geri Navarro says:

I agree with Bea. It deters me to pay $20 for two hours. I can get my favorite mules at Washington Bar for $9!
    Theirs is the BEST!

  3. Geri Navarro says:

I meant two pours. Stupid auto correct

  4. Melanie Lou says:

The one benefit to purchasing a glass is to help reduce trash. If the glass is unwanted, I would assume it could be recycled.

  5. Cheryl says:

Geez, folks. It’s a fundraiser! $20 for a glass and two beer, or wine, pours is very very reasonable.

Sure, you can go to a bar and it’s cheaper- but they’re not fundraising.

Look at it this way- do you want to have to pay admission to the farmers market or the annual holiday/tree lighting or, any other free community events? That $20 is your admission ticket to all community events PLUS you get two beers, a free glass, entertainment and a chance to mingle with neighbors!

I want to argue on the internet too!!!

  8. Jackie Johnson says:

Do they still offer a savings if you bring your own glass?

  9. Geri Navarro says:

If you bring your own glass, will you be served? Or you have to purchase $20. glass?

    • Kathryn says:

The answer is NO! After I purchased just beer tickets, assuming I could use last years’ glass, they wouldn’t serve me. So I went back to the ticket booth, and they wouldn’t sell me a new glass without buying 2 more drink tickets!
