October 2 Presentation will Showcase Ideas to Invigorate San Leandro’s Industrial Area
On October 2, 2013, the City of San Leandro is hosting a community presentation on the Next Generation Workplace District Study for the central industrial area at the Zero Net Energy Center, located at 14600 Catalina Street, at 4 pm. Interested stakeholders including businesses, property owners and residents are invited to come and hear Gregory Tung, from the internationally-recognized urban design firm Freedman Tung + Sasaki present creative findings and recommendations from the study to transition San Leandro’s industrial area into a vibrant 21st century workplace district.
San Leandro’s Industrial “Spine”
“Many exciting changes will be taking place in San Leandro as a result of the Lit San Leandro fiber optic loop and the new Kaiser medical center” stated Mayor Stephen Cassidy. “The Next Generation Study will help us take advantage of all the positive impacts that will be created by this new development, including making San Leandro a better place in which to live, work, or play for the thousands of new people who will be coming to our city as a result of these projects.”
The study was initially presented at a September 9th City Council work session. Three key strategies identified in the study are to boost value-added businesses, engage existing customers, and humanize the central industrial area.

Very promising! I’m very interested in the transportation/shuttle ideas for connecting the Kaiser Campus community with the small businesses that exist in the surrounding neighborhoods.
The shuttles should connect to business throughout the city, as I have proposed many times before, a cable car style shuttle that brings people to entertainment, shopping, business and personal services and more. South side of San Leandro should not be excluded as we have BAY FAIR MALL, HISTORIC BAL THEATRE, Ricky’s Sports bar, and many other businesses and dining options.
