Shabu House
1376 E. 14th Street

At 5 PM on Friday, March 9, 2018 the much-anticipated Shabu House will open its doors at 1367 E. 14th Street in Downtown San Leandro. Shabu-shabu is a Japanese nabemono hotpot dish of thinly sliced raw meat and vegetables that are boiled in water or broth and served with dipping sauces. Each piece of food is cooked individually by diners at the table. The term shabu-shabu is onomatopoeic, derived from the sound of the food being stirred in the pot.

Commonly, diners can order items as entrees, or the all-you-can-eat option. Shabu House also has an all-you-can-eat-and-drink option, which includes a selection of Japanese beers, house sake, as well as soft drinks. For your base, you can choose water, spicy miso, or ginger chicken broth. Diners can choose from kobe beef, lamb, kurobuta pork, or a combination of two meats. There are also vegetarian options on the menu, which also includes a selection of rice bowls, appetizers, and side dishes. If you have room, you can round off your meal with a bowl of refreshing red bean or green tea ice cream.

But the star is no doubt the hotpot, which makes for a one-of-a-kind dining experience and an interactive and social meal. The San Leandro location has undergone significant interior improvements and an investment of over $350,000, resulting in a complete transformation from its precursor, Thai Satay Restaurant. The unique personality of this eatery is a clear-cut response to the wishes of hungry San Leandrans for more high quality, distinctive restaurants in Downtown San Leandro. Tabemashou!

They used to have this kind of restaurant in SF before, like in the 80’s and 90’s, but since everythings is changing in SF, it changes thru time, too. Hopefully, this one will succeed.

cannot wait to try it-no more drives to fremont to enjoy hot pot! Just last week on my way to try the new Shanghai place, xia long bao, i saw that there are two korean restaurants opening up in downtown soon as well (next to McDonalds, and also next to iTea). San Leandro downtown is transforming before our very eyes. Can someone please open up a new, hip breakfast/brunch spot now? thank you!
