The $6.9 million BART-Downtown Pedestrian and Streetscape Interface project is now complete. The new street design improves pedestrian connectivity between the BART station and the heart of Downtown San Leandro.  This accomplishment satisfies one of the main goals of the City’s Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Strategy, making San Leandro Boulevard more inviting and more convenient for pedestrians and bicyclists. The project features the following improvements:

  • New wayfinding signage;
  • West Juana Avenue gateway feature;
  • Wider sidewalks;
  • Enhanced landscaping, on-street parking, street lights, and sidewalk bulb-outs with specialty crosswalk paving;
  • A new traffic signal at the intersection with Parrott Street;
  • Accessibility upgrades to the intersections with Davis Street, West Juana Avenue, and the BART entrance.

Following these public investments will be private developments such as the 200-unit Cornerstone Apartments, Phase 1 of the Downtown Technology Campus, and multiple public art projects.
