San Leandro Businesses Awaken the Magic of Reading

Kid Scoop News 1Monthly news magazine Kid Scoop News recently announced that four San Leandro business have underwritten a reading program for twelve San Leandro classrooms.  The Innisfree Companies, Wycen Foods, Teamsters Local 853, and Santos Agency, Inc. have helped to launch the “Awaken the Magic of Reading” project in local schools.

“These gifts provide nearly 400 children with hours of reading enjoyment, fostering vocabulary and reading skills development,” said Vicki Whiting, Executive Director and Publisher of Kid Scoop News. “Boosting reading skills is critical to closing the opportunity gap.” More than 30 San Leandro teachers have requested classroom subscriptions to the newspaper, and twelve are now underwritten. Kid Scoop News currently seeks support for the remaining 18 classrooms.

“We are happy to sponsor Kid Scoop News for the children of San Leandro in an effort to promote literacy. Reading is opening young minds to the infinite possibilities of the life they have in front of them,” said David Irmer, President of the Innisfree Companies and developer of Creekside Plaza and the Village.
