Strategic Downtown Site Available for Development
Beginning this week, a process is underway to transform the site of the former CVS store at the intersection of Davis Street and Callan Avenue in Downtown San Leandro. CVS, which owns the building and the corner parcel, is partnering with the City, which owns the adjacent parking lot, on a joint sale of the properties. This location was identified as a strategic opportunity site several years ago in San Leandro’s Transit Oriented Development Strategy. The zoning permits a mixed-use residential project with retail on the ground level and housing above.
The groundwork for this opportunity was laid when CVS was identified as the anchor tenant for The Village retail center, which opened at the end of 2014. When that new location opened, CVS closed their store at 1188 East 14th Street, creating the opportunity to re-position this property with a new development project.
Building on the momentum created by The Village, Marea Alta, and the San Leandro Tech Campus, this project will contribute to a renewed sense of energy and activity in Downtown San Leandro. The site was recently featured in the San Francisco Business Times and interest from developers is expected to be strong.
The City will review development proposals later this summer and select a developer to move forward with the project at that time. Interested developers should contact Larry Bell at Jones Lang LaSalle for information on the sale process and Jeff Kay with the City of San Leandro for information on zoning and entitlements.
