site_imageBeginning this week, a process is underway to transform the site of the former CVS store at the intersection of Davis Street and Callan Avenue in Downtown San Leandro. CVS, which owns the building and the corner parcel, is partnering with the City, which owns the adjacent parking lot, on a joint sale of the properties. This location was identified as a strategic opportunity site several years ago in San Leandro’s Transit Oriented Development Strategy. The zoning permits a mixed-use residential project with retail on the ground level and housing above.

The groundwork for this opportunity was laid when CVS was identified as the anchor tenant for The Village retail center, which opened at the end of 2014. When that new location opened, CVS closed their store at 1188 East 14th Street, creating the opportunity to re-position this property with a new development project.

Building on the momentum created by The Village, Marea Alta, and the San Leandro Tech Campus, this project will contribute to a renewed sense of energy and activity in Downtown San Leandro. The site was recently featured in the San Francisco Business Times and interest from developers is expected to be strong.

The City will review development proposals later this summer and select a developer to move forward with the project at that time. Interested developers should contact Larry Bell at Jones Lang LaSalle for information on the sale process and Jeff Kay with the City of San Leandro for information on zoning and entitlements.

Just please put something nice! No more nail salons or junkie stores. San leandro is such a nice town to walk in, but we need more nice places to go to than just Chipolte,Peers and CVS

I second the first commenter! Trader Joes would be a game changer for the area.

I agree, Trader Joe’s would be perfect!!!

Development is needed from the referenced building down past SL City hall. It’s such a cute area but must get rid of all the hair salons with no one in them and add some great restaurants. This would also be a bonus to all the city hall employees and so many people that live in houses in the area.
No more fast food places. We need ambiance.

Any more recent updates on this development site? Still just see a for sale sign. Any hope of something good happening here?
