The East Bay Economic Development Alliance has announced finalists for the 2020 East Bay Innovation Awards – and once again, the city of San Leandro is represented proudly by not one, but two innovative businesses!

Nominated in the category of Built Environment, Urban Bloc transforms used shipping containers into vibrant spaces for eating, shopping, working, or playing.  Urban Bloc began its manufacturing in San Leandro in 2014 and learned that many of their suppliers are also locally based, making San Leandro an ideal home for the business. Nominated in the category of Sustainability, Porifera manufactures proprietary forward osmosis membranes and provides process solutions to a variety of industries. Porifera’s innovative Forward Osmosis solutions enable industries to efficiently extract water and retain only the most valuable components of their products. This unique technology facilitates the reduction of water waste, improvements to water reuse, and more efficient processing solutions to create better products using less energy. Established in 2009, Porifera serves more than 100 customers in over 23 countries.  Learn more about Porifera HERE.

Past San Leandro awardees of the East Bay Innovations are PilotCity for education (2018)  and Prime Roots for its innovation in food technology (2019). The East Bay Innovation Awards take place on Thursday, March 26, 2020 at the Fox Theater in Downtown Oakland.

Congratulations to Porifera and Urban Bloc on these prestigious nominations!
