What Resources Do Our Growing Advanced Manufacturing Businesses Need to Thrive?
If you are a manufacturer in San Leandro, startup, accelerating or established, and looking for resources to help your company grow or innovate — we need your help!
It’s not a secret that San Leandro enjoys a regional reputation as a great City in which to make things. Startup and accelerating companies are pouring into San Leandro, bringing new technology-driven businesses in the areas of CleanTech, Virtual Reality, DroneTech, BioTech/Food, Software and Advanced Manufacturing.
These young companies face the challenges of competition, rapid growth, talent attraction and keeping up with a fast-paced technology market. Additionally, the City’s established manufacturers are also challenged by competition, talent attraction and keeping up with rapidly changing technology. How can we make it easier for these companies at various stages in their business cycles to access the resources they need for growth?
And how can we support collaboration between the startup innovators and established companies? Startups and established companies bring two distinct and equally integral skills to the table: startups excel at giving birth to successful proof of concepts; larger companies are much better at successfully scaling proof of concepts. Cooperation, not competition, is key!
The City of San Leandro has partnered with the Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator (“LACI”) and SKB (owners of Gate510/Westgate Shopping Center located at 1933 Davis St.) to understand the top priorities of our growing businesses. With your help to identify these priorities, we intend to develop programmed, expert business assistance to assist your business to create a profitable bottom line that is accelerated through sustainable environmental practices and a diverse workforce. We are examining incubator/co-working space models to deliver these services at Gate510.
We are proposing a two-step approach to vet our manufacturing community:
- A Survey completed by our manufacturing community, large and small, that asks: “How Can San Leandro Best Support your Hardware Company?” Should take you less than 10 minutes to complete. Click Here to take you to the online survey, then click on Hardware Company survey.
- Hosting of two Focus Groups for a deeper dive into the Survey results: One for established manufacturers, the second focused on startups and accelerating companies. These invitation-only Focus Groups (limited to a maximum of 12 participants each) are scheduled to take place Thursday, July 27th at Gate510’s Town Center — more information to come!
