food truck mafiaFood Truck Mafia and the City of San Leandro present San Leandro Street Eats, arriving in Downtown San Leandro on September 17th from 5:00 p.m-9:00 p.m. at 1550 East 14th Street (the site of the former Lucky/Alberston’s store).  Events will continue each Tuesday at the same time through the fall season. Food Truck Mafia’s Street Eats events offer 6-10 gourmet trucks weekly, with the roster of trucks varying from week to week.

The Food Truck Mafia has a following of over 6,000 people, hosting events in several cities, including Fremont, San Ramon and Pleasanton. Their roster of participating food trucks includes over 50 diverse vendors.

San Leandro Street Eats presents an opportunity to introduce new people to Downtown San Leandro, which will ultimately benefit existing brick-and-mortar restaurants and retailers. Food truck events can also demonstrate the strength of local demand for increased food options, helping the community attract new restaurants downtown over time.

Please help spread the word, and we’ll see you on September 17!

I used to live nearby San Leandro. I’ve never heard of Food Truck Mafia but, I think what they are proposing is fantastic! Keep it going!

I’m not sure how 5:00-9:00 is good for local businesses? If all the area businesses are closed, how do they benefit? Wouldn’t it have been better to have food trucks at lunch time, so residents and local workers can all go out and get some quick lunch food? Or would that be considered a threat to local restaurants? If that’s the case, how can they benefit local restaurants by being open at night?

    I’m just full of questions.

just as the farmer’s market, more people will attend. i don’t think lunch time will suffice being that people will only either have 1/2 or full hour to lunch factor that you have to wait in line..etc.

There is no one perfect time and many factors were considered (including availability of the trucks and the event organizers), but we think this time will work well. Part of having a thriving downtown is generating activity after business hours and these events will create energy at night. Also, Tuesday evenings are not one of the busier times for existing restaurants, so the impact on them will be less than it would be for a lunch event. We’ll be tracking the success over time and could make adjustments if needed, but we are very optimistic that this will be a success.

Great turnout last night. A suggestion for the next one: more tables and chairs and off to the sides instead of in the middle. Excited to go to the next one!
