San Leandro’s proud history of manufacturing includes the impressive former Kellogg’s Packing Plant at 2010-2020 Williams Street.  Opened the year Tony the Tiger was introduced in 1952, the San Leandro cereal plant marked the continued investment and growth of the company after its founder W.K. Kellogg passed in 1951. Kellogg’s employed over 300 people at this facility which, at its peak, produced over 100,000 pounds of cereal per year.

Situated on the Lit San Leandro fiber loop and near the Kaiser Medical Center, this intriguing site is generating strong interest for re-positioning and investment. In the meantime, the images below offer a look back at the site’s history.

I have very fond memories of this facility during the early 70’s.

I worked for a company servicing the office accounting machines and the one thing that I enjoyed most about this place was their obsession with cleanliness. In the hallways and office spaces there was always somebody cleaning or buffing the white waxed floors. You could not enter their parking lot without first going through their car wash at the entrance.
The only other places on my favorite places to visit in the same area were Granny Goose and Cornuts. These were both locally owned companies in Oakland and Cornuts at that time used specially grown corn from the Andes that had kernels as large as your thumb. Any visitor was always offered a free sample still fresh and hot out of the roaster. Eating Cornuts cold out of a store bought bag was never the same after that.
