The property at 1495 E. 14th Street has been standing vacant for many years. This former bank recently changed ownership, and is currently proposed to become a multi-restaurant concept in the heart of Downtown San Leandro.

Retail West is marketing its attractive concept, seeking tenants interested in spaces designed for open-air patio, beer garden restaurant, and tap room concepts.

The 10,600 sf space offers a 2,500 sf restaurant space, a 2,895 sf restaurant space, as well as a 5,205 sf outdoor space that has potential for an upcycled shipping container concept.

This concept will complement the many other food and beverage options in Downtown, including Sons of Liberty Alehouse, the Cooler, Kanda Ramen & BBQ, Maejoo Korean fried chicken, and soon Slice House Pizza and other exciting new restaurants, all within a short walking distance from the project.

RetailWest is currently preparing for partial demolition of the former bank in order to open up additional outdoor space, and will begin improvement work on both the exterior and interior before long. Improvements will also be made to the shared trash enclosure located in the W. Juana parking lot in order to be able to accommodate these new uses.

Once completed, the project is sure to become another hot spot in Downtown San Leandro, providing a place for locals and visitors to enjoy good food and drinks.

This is good and all but, but unfortunately, there has been alot of restaurant that have open….and closed within a year. Hope, that whatever restaurant is being open, to be successful.

  2. Teresa Herrera says:

The address is 1495 US Bank which is still open. I’m confused on location maybe it’s the bank that has been closed for years on Est 14th and Davis/Callan.

It’s great to see the Downtown getting new establishments, but as a previous commenter pointed out, some established venues such as The Englander had closed, and there are two other similar establishments practically next door to this location.

This is all great to have these, and I wish any new or existing business in Downtown a lot of success, but there is also another important consideration to be analyzed. The parking in the Plaza and South of Estudillo and E. 14th is horrendous! Trying to get a parking place to shop at Safeway and CVS is bad. Now, add more consumer traffic and it will only get worse. It really is a ‘double-edge sword’.

If this gets approved, are we going to have the San Leandro Police patrol on bikes again, now that places are opening up due to the lessening of COVID restrictions? They were very effective in keeping people safe. I haven’t seen an Officer on a bike in at least couple of years.

This is great! Can’t wait to walk there from my house. Love the opportunity for small Iocal business too. Glad to see some new vision for this area.

  5. William Ho says:

Traffic will be an issue and the city needs to slow down the traffic speed to keep pedestrians safe.

  7. Jose Prado says:

this is good news for our local economy. WE need a section of downtown like this. Hopefully it will be successful like those restaurants & the theater on B st in Hayward (pre COVID.) Would be great if SL could get eventually get a theater downtown SL. I remember there used to be one in the 70’s.

You may want to redo your concept in my professional opinion.
