The East Bay Economic Development Alliance has announced finalists for the 2018 East Bay Innovation Awards – and once again, the City of San Leandro is represented proudly by one of our successful education innovators!
This year, PilotCity has been nominated in the category of Education for its pioneering innovative connections between the world of work and the world of learning to develop a more innovative, intrapreneurial and entrepreneurial workforce in the East Bay. PilotCity’s passion is to transform local classrooms into real-time workforce incubators by partnering with industry to deliver living curriculum that creates the future of relevancy in education through high impact project-based learning experiences in the classroom that serves as work-based learning.
In partnership with Alameda County Office of Education, PilotCity delivered their inaugural Workforce Incubator in the Fall of 2017. Working with 6 school districts in Alameda County, the incubator provided 350+ students fellowship positions as they worked on employer-based projects in the classroom for 7 high tech employers in the sectors of Virtual & Augmented Reality, Internet of Things (IoT), Additive Manufacturing, Subtractive Manufacturing, Drones, and Robotics. The participating employers included Dasbotics, DJI, InstaVR, MESH, SE3D, Seeed and Type A Machines. Each employer spent over 20+ hours of service to each classroom they sponsored. The participating school districts included Alameda, Hayward, Oakland, San Leandro, San Lorenzo and West Contra Costa Unified School Districts. The 350+ students impacted in the classroom will now become candidates to move onto the interview stage for internships in Summer 2018.
