Bay Area Green Businesses Celebrated at Annual Event
On November 16th, the Bay Area Green Business Program and Chinook Book co-hosted the annual Green Business Recognition event in Oakland, awarding certificates to businesses who have held the Certified Green Business status for ten years or longer. San Leandro is home to 16 certified businesses (listed below), and the Bay Area Green Business Program hopes that this number will grow.
The Bay Area Green Business Program, a founding member of the California Green Business Program, verifies that businesses meet its higher standards of environmental performance. Its partnership with government agencies and utilities helps local businesses comply with environmental regulations and take additional actions to conserve resources, prevent pollution, minimize waste, and reduce their carbon footprint.
The Association of Bay Area Governments coordinates the Program, which is managed by local Coordinators in the 9 San Francisco Bay Area counties. The coordinators develop regional standards that businesses must meet to qualify. The Bay Area Green Business Program offers businesses and agencies an easy-to-use framework for improving environmental performance and becoming certified. More than 2,300 businesses and public agencies have been certified since 1996.
