Shaw Bakers is a manufacturer and distributer of fresh and frozen breads, as well as a range of sweet and savory pastries. Many may know it by its retail name, La Boulangerie, founded in 2015 by Pascal Rigo and Nicolas Bernadi, who previously operated the regional favorite, La Boulange.

Shaw Bakers is preparing to expand their production at 14490 Catalina Street, where until recently, Otis Spunkmeyer cookies were being made. The 90,000 square foot facility will produce up to 30,000 units per hour. They will be making a multi-million-dollar investment in the facility, installing state-of-the-art equipment and will be looking to hire locally. This location will be in addition to their South San Francisco headquarters.

The bakery distributes baked goods to several major food retailers, including Trader Joe’s and Costco. It also has four of its own La Boulangerie brick-and-mortar locations in San Francisco, as well as one in Irvine, CA.

Its star product is the croissant toast – a flaky, buttery croissant that’s been baked into a loaf and sliced. La Boulangerie offers three varieties: super flaky, everything, and vegan.

La Boulangerie prides itself on its premium ingredients. It uses only cage-free eggs, no trans fats, non-GMO ingredients, and no artificial preservatives.

In addition to its many breads, La Boulangerie also offers spreads such as fruit jams and soft caramel spread, as well as granola.

Another stand-out product is the delectable panettone offered by From Roy — mountainous, melt-in-your-mouth, airy pastries that are offered in a variety of seasonal flavors.

Over its 150-year history, San Leandro has been home to a great many food manufacturers, many of which are renowned across the globe, so it is only fitting that we celebrate the arrival of Shaw Bakers to the mix!

    What fabulous news!

Now, please ask them to follow the model of Ghirardelli and make those delicious breads available to us directly. An attached coffee shop, maybe.

Fantastic! Enjoyed their bread for years. Hoping we can buy at the Catalina St location. I miss the sourdough loaf with garlic cloves. Costco doesn’t sell it anymore.

This so exciting! I worked at Kilpatricks – Rainbo – Earthgrains -Sara Lee.- Bimbo Bakeries at the 23rd ave exit in Oakland for 18 years before Bimbo closed the location after they purchased Sara Lee in 2014.
I would love to tour and contribute on a part time basis if jobs are available. I love the bakery business.
