Shop Local This Holiday Season

Use a Shop Local San Leandro Gift Card and get a free bonus to Shop Local this Saturday!

Saturday, November 26, 2022 is Small Business Saturday, an initiative to encourage local, small business holiday shopping on the Saturday after Thanksgiving in the United States, during one of the busiest shopping periods of the year.

At the most recent Council Meeting, Mayor Pauline Russo Cutter presented a Small Business Saturday proclamation to two local businesses: Ge’ez Market and Be Well Juice – both located at Pelton Center in Downtown San Leandro. These businesses were also featured in another blog post earlier this month.

You can also shop and gift local – and get a free bonus – using the Keeping it Local Virtual Gift Card program. Since the program began last year, it has generated over $13,000 in gift cards issued and nearly $9,000 in gift redemptions – money going straight into the local economy!

And – get a bonus gift card to use or gift! When you purchase a $25 (or more) gift card you will receive a $10 bonus gift card. If you purchase a $50 (or more) gift card, you will receive a $20 bonus gift card. If you purchase a $100 (or more) gift card you will receive a $40 bonus gift card. (Limit 2 per purchaser).

Purchase a Keeping it Local San Leandro gift card to use at one of the over 20 participating shops in the neighborhood. All digital and always available on your phone, the Keeping it Local San Leandro gift card is great for birthdays, holidays, teacher appreciation, coach gifts, or just to show your appreciation to a friend. Now you can give back to the community while you celebrate the holidays coming up.

The program is a part of San Leandro’s recovery efforts to support businesses and foster community. Support for the bonus gifts is being provided by American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) federal recovery funds.

A good variety of businesses (including some new ones) have signed up to participate in the program, but we are still hoping to enlist more of your favorite local spots to the list. If you are a business, please consider signing up on the Keeping It Local San Leandro website. Remember, approximately $4,000 in issued gift cards remain unredeemed, so there are many gift cards waiting to be used in your place of business!
