On September 16, the Downtown San Leandro Community Benefit District is hosting OkDROberfest: a traditional beer garden-style celebration in the parking lot at Washington and West Juana Avenues.

Seasoned San Leandrans surely have fond memories of Sausage and Suds – a music and beer festival that took place at the beginning of October on Parrott Street. Since the last festival in 2019, there has been a goal to reboot the event format, however those plans were put on hold due to the pandemic – until now!

The Cooler and Fieldwork Brewing are opening their taps, but there will also be beer available from Drake’s Brewing, and 21st-Amendment Brewery, as well as Bavarian-style pretzels from As Kneaded Bakery, and, of course, bratwurst! And if beer is not your thing, Sons of Liberty Alehouse will be offering margaritas and non-alcoholic beverages.

There will be traditional beer garden music and family-friendly activities. Beer pours are $8 and are available only in the commemorative OkDROberfest stein which can be ordered for $25 (which includes two pours). Pre-event sale of the steins end on September 14, so buy yours now in order to skip the line at the event! Enter the discount code SLNEXT and get 10% off your stein and four pour tickets! But if you forget, no worries, steins and pour tickets will be available for sale on-site at the event.

Downtown San Leandro is continuing to evolve, and we are seeing the arrivals of several new restaurants, including Hong Kong Chef, at 1371 E. 14th Street (formerly Dynasty Pot) which opened earlier this year. IHOP opened its doors in the former Sizzler location in March of this year and has been well-received by the community. Highly anticipated is also Ike’s Sandwiches, at 155 Parrott Street, where work is now continuing after some challenges with contractor availability delayed construction. At Creekside Plaza (500 Davis Street), Zenti Bistro is preparing to open after the closure of Papaito Rotisserie and Antigua Coffee Shop.
