San Leandro Chamber of Commerce Celebrates 100 Years!
On Thursday, January 26, 2022, the San Leandro Chamber of Commerce kicked off its 100th anniversary celebration with a ribbon-cutting at its offices at 140 Estudillo Avenue.
Chamber President and CEO Emily Griego spoke about the legacy of the organization and applauded long-standing members, such as Deadrich Real Estate, which has been a member since the establishment of the Chamber in 1923. Recently appointed Board Chair Khushil Naik, General Manager of the Marina Inn, spoke on the importance of diversity among the business ecosystem, and Mayor Juan Gonzalez discussed the importance of economic activity in San Leandro.
The Chamber of Commerce will be celebrating this milestone throughout the year, with a Job Fair and return of Taste of San Leandro in March and the State of the City and annual Business Gala in April. Through their partnership with the City, they will also be organizing the city’s first Restaurant Week in the summer, the annual San Leandro By Design event in September, and National Manufacturing Day in October.
The San Leandro Board of Trade (created in the late 1890s) reorganized as the Chamber of Commerce in 1923 and has since been a steadfast partner with the City to ensure strong economic growth and a healthy business environment. After World War II, the Chamber advocated for the development of vacant land, providing a balance of homes, businesses, recreational, and medical facilities and sowing the seeds for the strong sense of community that exists today.
The Chamber is currently 400 members strong, with plenty of room to grow, and is the 13th largest Chamber of Commerce in the San Francisco Bay Area. Businesses interested in joining the Chamber can apply on the website.
