Bicycle Events Abound This May
It’s time to gather your family, grab your bicycles and secure your helmets! There are a number of local biking events occurring this May in San Leandro.
On Thursday, May 4, 2017 from 6:30 PM until 8 PM, the community is invited to attend the City’s Bicycle & Pedestrian Master Plan Update Open House at the Marina Community Center, located at 15301 Wicks Boulevard. All are invited to share their thoughts about walking, biking, and accessing public transit as the City works on updating the 2010 Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan. Snacks and children’s activities will be provided.
On Sunday, May 7, 2017, the San Leandro Downtown Association‘s annual BikeSL event returns, inviting families to take part in this safe and healthy bike-ride from Downtown San Leandro to the Marina. The San Leandro Police Department will provide escorts along the way to ensure a safe journey. Registration opens at 9 AM at the Englander Sports Pub & Restaurant, located at 101 Parrott Street, and the group ride begins at 10 AM. On Thursday, May 11, 2017 all are encouraged to participate in the Bay Area Bike to Work/School Day. From 7 AM to 9 AM, Energizer Stations featuring refreshments and biking gear will be located at the Downtown San Leandro BART station, the Bayfair BART Station, near Kaiser San Leandro Medical Center (Fairway Dr. and Merced St.), Toyon Park (Bancroft Ave. and 145th St.), and Memorial Park (Bancroft Ave. and Callan Ave.). A bike ride between Memorial Park and San Leandro BART Station will be led by City Councilmembers, starting approximately at 8 AM.
