The City of San Leandro is happy to partner with ABG Art Group to transform additional utility boxes to exhilarating art throughout the city.   Over the past decade, public art has been installed on at least 68 utility boxes throughout town! Check out the images on the City’s public art page.

The ABG Art Group team is looking for local San Leandro or Alameda County artists and community members who are interested in exhibiting their artwork on a box. Selected artists will be compensated for their work and their art will display on locations around the city.

This time, there are additional parameters placed on the artwork’s theme. The artwork should in some way represent a part of San Leandro’s legacy and history, be it sustainability, technology, innovation, or historical aspects of the city’s 150 year history.

By installing artwork on utility boxes in San Leandro, we create a platform for storytelling and communication, transforming unattractive, obtrusive utility boxes into vibrant art pieces and a topic of interest for the community. The first three rounds of installations have enjoyed great success and much positive feedback.

With the celebration of the City’s sesquicentennial milestone, there is a unique opportunity to memorialize this celebration through a limited utility box art program.

Portfolios are being accepted now, through January 15, 2023. Please visit ABG Art Group’s webpage for more information, and to submit your application.
