Casa Peralta, 384 W Estudillo Ave, San Leandro

On the heels of the Truth Is Beauty lighting ceremony last October and the public tours held in November and December, two San Leandro-based, women-run organizations will launch a community event this Saturday, March 4, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Casa Peralta.  Celebrating Truth Is Beauty – Family Art Workshop has been developed by Community Impact Lab (Xouhoa Bowen, Founder); and GenLead /Belong/Lab (Neha Sampat, Founder and CEO), a coaching and consulting firm focused on strengthening organizations and individuals through leadership, inclusion and professional development.

Please RSVP to participate by clicking here.

The Founders of this event envision engaging and inspiring families and children with Truth Is Beauty’s messages of female safety, strength and empowerment.  Through creation of their own art, our community’s future leaders will be encouraged to think about what feminine strength means to them and help them grow their appreciation for art – and respect for women and girls.

Celebrating Truth Is Beauty – Family Art Workshop has been designed to engage the youngest members of our Community:

1. Children’s Art Project: Children will be invited to create art on a fabric flag/other small canvas to answer any of the following promptsTIB at SLTC (or similar prompts):
i. Who is a strong girl/woman in your life?
ii. What does girl power mean to you?
iii. What do you want for our City of San Leandro?

2. Storytime: A separate area will be created where children can gather to listen to stories related to the themes of feminine strength/safety/freedom. Volunteer community members will select and read the stories.

The event is being sponsored by the Downtown San Leandro Improvement Assn., Pilot City and the City of San Leandro.  Please join us this Saturday for San Leandro’s ongoing celebration of  Marco Cochrane’s Truth Is Beauty sculpture and his invitation to “Imagine a World Where Women Feel Safe”.

Feeling safe begins here.  We look forward to seeing you and your family at Casa Peralta this Saturday at 10:30!

Please let us know you are planning to attend, and how many, by registering here.
