Dining Discovery: Cafe Sorriso
1501 Washington Ave
In recent years, Downtown San Leandro has experienced a significant welcoming of new restaurants and the excitement surrounding these new and exciting spots has been palpable. Alongside these newcomers stand many tested and tried eateries toward which San Leandrans still gravitate — some of which have been a part of the Downtown experience for a decade or longer.
Family-run Cafe Sorriso has been a staple cafe in the Downtown area since 2005. Its peaceful and inviting seating area offers free Wi-Fi, and there is the opportunity to enjoy its culinary offerings al fresco with an ample outdoor area.
Currently a breakfast and lunch establishment, Cafe Sorriso is chiefly a sandwich and soup destination, but many come here simply for its excellent coffee or refreshing smoothies. Diners may enjoy anything from traditional breakfast sandwiches to Vietnamese banh mi, alongside made-to-order spring rolls and hearty noodle soups.
Beyond the opportunity to satisfy a caffeine deficit or settle a grumbling tummy, Cafe Sorriso can also serve as a serene get-away from the humdrum of everyday life, a spontaneous lunch meeting spot, or a place to settle in with a good book on the weekend. Its central location makes it hard to miss, and while it does not currently keep dinner hours, Cafe Sorriso has a lot to offer during daylight hours.
