It is yet again time to gather your family, grab your bicycles and secure your helmets! There are two popular local biking events occurring next week in San Leandro.

On Sunday, May 6, 2018, the San Leandro Downtown Association‘s annual BikeSL event returns, inviting families to take part in this safe and healthy round-trip bike-ride from Downtown San Leandro to the Marina.  The San Leandro Police Department will provide escorts along the way to ensure a safe journey. Registration for the family ride opens at 9:30 AM at the historic Casa Peralta, located at 384 W. Estudillo Avenue, and the group ride begins at 10:30 AM. Those brave enough to undertake a more challenging ride to Lake Chabot can register at 9:00 AM for a 9:30 AM departure. Upon returning to Casa Peralta, there will be a free lunch and a raffle will take place. To learn more about the event, get release forms, and view photos from last year’s ride, click HERE.

On Thursday, May 10, 2018 all are encouraged to participate in the Bay Area Bike to Work/School Day. From 7 AM to 9 AM, Energizer Stations featuring refreshments and goodie bags will be located at the Downtown San Leandro BART station, the Bayfair BART Station, near Kaiser San Leandro Medical Center (Fairway Dr. and Merced St.), and Memorial Park (Bancroft Ave. and Callan Ave.). A bike ride between Memorial Park and San Leandro BART Station will be led by City Councilmembers, starting approximately at 8 AM.

Also in exciting news, on March 19, 2018, the City Council approved the City’s Bicycle & Pedestrian Plan.  To review the plan, click HERE for the overview, and HERE for the Master Plan document. This plan aims to make San Leandro a more pedestrian-and-bicycle-friendly place to live, work, and play.
