Are you a San Leandro business owner? Wondering what the fuss about fast connections to the internet is all about? Have you imagined your business having a fiber optic access internet connection with unlimited speed and data?  Could this speed — and the potential of “smart” applications — improve your business’ productivity and bottom line? Would you like to know how fast your current internet connection really is?

Take the City of San Leandro Business Community Broadband Survey today and help to create a Fiber Optic Master Plan designed to facilitate improved broadband access for our San Leandro businesses.

Your feedback is extremely important to us and we value your time. Accordingly, if you enter your email address at the end of the survey, we will draw at random one name to receive a $100 gift card for a local San Leandro business!

This survey will be kept live through the end of February 2018 and will help to inform a Business Broadband Workshop that will take place on February 14th, 7:30 a.m. at the Zero Net Energy Center, 14600 Catalina St., San Leandro. Please mark your calendars — all San Leandro businesses and non-profits are invited!

BACKGROUND

In April of 2017, the City of San Leandro issued a Request for Proposals to engage an experienced “Smart City” consultant to assist in development of a Fiber Optic Master Plan. Development of the Lit San Leandro fiber optic network and the Alameda County Bus Rapid Transit line (now under construction) has provided the City with a uniquely modern infrastructure asset: ownership of 30 to 144+ strands of dark fiber throughout the City of San Leandro.

What are the possible services the City could provide its residents, businesses and visitors with this state of the art infrastructure? Of these possibilities, what services do our residents and businesses need and want? To help the City understand its options, Magellan Advisors, under the direction of former Santa Monica Chief Technology Officer Jory Wolf, was hired.

The Magellan team invested considerable time in the last quarter of 2017 interviewing City staff throughout all departments to understand challenges that may have a technology solution. As we enter 2018, Magellan and staff are preparing a series of Broadband Community Workshops to engage our residents and our businesses in this exploration.

Dates for the Residential Community Broadband Workshops will be posted in a separate San Leandro Next post early next week. Please stay tuned!

I think the 3rd paragraph has the wrong date (year) on it

End of survey has line to leave further comments – nothing to fill out.

You really need to have a section on choice of service esp. in a multi-tenant building where landlord selects provider and fee structure – this is critical to many small biz in SL.

Your consultant team should also review bringing fiber to the neighborhoods
