Ike’s Love and Sandwiches Opens in Downtown San Leandro

On December 9, 2023, Ike’s Love and Sandwiches celebrated its grand opening at 155 Parrott Street, after a few of weeks of a soft opening. Ike’s opening has been highly anticipated by San Leandrans, who showed up in droves to attend the grand opening event. 75 people were waiting in line when the store opened, and the shop sold over 500 sandwiches that day!

The first 50 customers in line received a free t-shirt and one lucky resident won free sandwiches for a year! The sandwich wizard himself, Ike Shehadeh, was onsite to meet and greet the San Leandro community.

For the occasion, Ike’s created two exclusive sandwiches: the RKityCat (turkey, fried zucchini, Ike’s Bay Fair pesto, ranch, avocado, pepper jack) and the Robo QB (breaded eggplant, Ike’s Bay Fair pesto, ranch, avocado, and pepper jack) and these were a big hit with the community.

Ike’s occupies the former Allphin Jewelers space and has been in the works for a couple of years. Disruptions in the supply chain, as well as challenges with contractor availability delayed the project significantly, but at last the long-awaited sandwich shop can bring its menu to the community. Ike’s employs 12 staff and operates during the hours of 10 AM until 9 PM daily.

Ike’s sandwich menu is very diverse, and strives to cater to people with dietary restrictions, including vegetarian, vegan, halal, and gluten-free options. Ike’s opened in San Francisco in 2007 and quickly began to grow. San Leandro is the 106th location for Ike’s nationwide. 77 of those sandwich shops are in California alone.
