Show your hometown holiday spirit and kick off the holiday season by watching the lighting of the Downtown San Leandro Holiday Tree at approximately 5:45PM this Friday, December 3rd!

As a part of the event, you can see the tree light up with bright lights and ornaments (and a bright new star) and enjoy a performance by members of the Portuguese community band – the Filarmonica Artista Amadora de San Leandro. Join the event to hear from special guests including San Leandro Mayor Pauline Russo-Cutter and local merchants, and to see who this year’s “Honorary Tree Lighting Family” will be.

Until 2019, the community gathered in Downtown each December for 25 years to mark the holidays with the “It’s a Wonderful Night” celebration and holiday tree lighting organized by the San Leandro Downtown Association and Downtown San Leandro Community Benefit District.

In 2019, “It’s a Wonderful Night” was canceled due to inclement weather, and the pandemic has presented challenges to bringing the event back safely in 2020 as well as this year. But these challenges have allowed us to take a fresh look at our traditions and find new and innovative ways to connect with family and friends.

Like last year, the Downtown San Leandro Community Benefit District will once again be placing a holiday tree at Estudillo Plaza on Estudillo Ave between E. 14th Street and Washington Ave.

The virtual, streaming tree-lighting ceremony will take place on Facebook this Friday, December 3, from 5:30PM until 6PM. Those wishing to simply attend and receive reminders about the event may RSVP here.
