On March 7, 2020, Pallen’s Martial Arts Family Fitness celebrated the Open House and Grand Opening of its new facility located at 1660 Washington Avenue with free demonstrations, classes, fitness assessments, a live DJ and tours. The first facility of its kind in the region, Pallen’s Martial Arts Family Fitness will provide access for families to train together and meet families with like-minds to gather as a community. A ribbon-cutting for this space was hosted by the San Leandro Chamber of Commerce on February 26, 2020.

Pallen’s has been an East Bay staple since Senior Grand Master Max M. Pallen opened its Oakland facility in 1968. In 1980, Pallen’s moved the school to Marina Boulevard in San Leandro and since 2010, Pallen’s has offered classes at its 1665 E. 14th Street location, a stone’s throw from the new facility. Both San Leandro locations will continue to offer classes and services. Pallen’s also has school locations in Union City, San Ramon, and Dublin.

Significant investment has gone into upgrading the former Walt’s Gym space.  There are several unique services in this 7,300 square foot facility including a 1,700 square foot training room dedicated to adult martial arts and fitness classes, an expanded classroom for children’s martial arts classes with matted spring floors for maximum safety. Families can look forward to a character-building curriculum, world champion martial art instruction, a fitness gym including circuit training equipment, lockers and showering facilities, as well as a comfortable area for parents to view their children’s martial arts classes or enjoy the free high speed Wi-Fi while they wait.

Jordan Pallen, Grand Master and co-owner of the new facility, recognizes the need for this type of family fitness center in the area. “Our adult program is growing. More and more parents are strapped for time and they want to work out while their kids are in martial arts classes. We knew we needed a bigger, more modern space in order to support the needs of our community.” In addition to an expanded adult martial arts class schedule with Kickboxing, Filipino Martial Arts, and Kajukenbo, the new facility will also offer adult fitness classes like cardio kickboxing, yoga, basic self-defense fitness, and high intensity interval training.

Felipa Ortiz-Pallen, Program Director and co-owner of the new facility also sees the need for expansion in the area.  “Our children’s martial arts program is expanding. More families are moving to San Leandro because of our great location in the bay area, and they are joining Pallen’s because we are known for our character and confidence building program for kids. We want to bring the health and fitness benefits of our unique method of martial arts to everyone–really cater to the entire family.” Not only does Pallen’s offer martial arts classes for children ages 3 and up, they also offer camp programs for summer, winter and spring breaks, an activity-packed heritage after-school program with transportation from schools, and bonus events like Parent Nights Out and Birthday parties.

Pallen’s Martial Arts Family Fitness Center will have special enrollment promotions for memberships, Heritage After School Program and birthday parties. For more information regarding Pallen’s Martial Arts Family Fitness, visit www.PallensMartialArts.com.
