Siempre Verde Park Now Open!
On Saturday, October 1, Mayor Pauline Cutter and members of City Council cut the ribbon and officially opened Siempre Verde Park at 455 Park Boulevard, which has undergone a complete overhaul over the past year. The redesigned park includes new play structures, picnic tables, barbecues, tables for playing chess and checkers, ping pong tables, basketball courts, new restrooms, and areas for physical exercise and tai chi. A pedestrian walkway encircles the grassy field, which is irrigated with well water, ensuring that Siempre Verde will truly always be green.
Funding for this project was leveraged from local and State funds, with $900,000 from the Department of Housing and Community Development grant awarded for the creation of affordable housing, over $1.5 million in park development fees, and over $1.1 million from the City’s General Fund, made possible via Measure HH.
The opening ceremony was a great success with an estimate of approximately 800 people of all ages in attendance. This great new amenity is the culmination of a process that began in 2010, with the formation of a plan guided by residents, students and other community members.
