Don’t miss the opportunity to celebrate local makers at the Made In San Leandro event on October 1st, as well as Bay Area Manufacturing Week from October 7th through October 14th!

This year, during the City’s sesquicentennial celebration, San Leandro’s long history as a manufacturing hotbed has been featured in the recent San Francisco Business Times supplement; and local, smaller makers were invited to participate in a Makers Market at the recent (re)Discover Downtown San Leandro event. With local-grown businesses – such as Daniel Best Agriculture Works, which later merged with Caterpillar Tractor Company, and national brands like Chrysler and Kellogg’s – San Leandro’s legacy as a maker community is strong.

Made In San Leandro

As part of the sesquicentennial programming, Mayor Pauline Russo Cutter and District 1 Councilmember Cox are co-hosting a unique Made in San Leandro event to celebrate San Leandro’s rich manufacturing history. On Saturday, October 1st, the area between 21st-Amendment Brewery and Drake’s Brewing Company, the Ale Trail, will host a family-friendly event with food trucks, beer, activities, and live music. Many of our local manufacturers, such as Halus Power Systems, Energy Recovery, and Mr. Plastics, will also be on hand to showcase their work to the community.

Attendees can visit the business booths, learn about what they make and how they make it, as well as take tours of makers in Gate510. The event will also feature a kids’ zone with a pumpkin patch. The event will run from 12:00PM – 5:00PM.

Friday October 7th through Friday October 14th will be Bay Area Manufacturing Week, and San Leandro has great offerings this year.

In-Person Tours: For the first time since before the pandemic, manufacturers are opening their doors to free in-person tours:

Video Tours: Many manufacturers are not yet ready to host in-person tours, and some folks may not be comfortable attending in-person tours, so we have also produced four virtual tours that will be available on the City’s Bay Area Manufacturing webpage starting October 1st. These manufacturers are:

In late October/early November, 2022, Eden ROP and Chabot College are partnering on morning tours of local advanced manufacturers for local high school students. These tours will bus 30-40 students to Scandic and UrbanBloc.

So, come on out and celebrate the city’s extensive heritage as a maker city! It might amaze you to learn what things are being made in San Leandro!
