Major Enhancements Planned for the LINKS Shuttle Service
The ongoing revitalization of San Leandro’s industrial areas has become a major success story. As the City works to attract new businesses, one point of emphasis has been on providing a wide range of transportation options. In addition to working to improve bike lanes and the pedestrian experience, plans are in place to update the free LINKS shuttle service to better connect workers to the Downtown San Leandro BART station.
San Leandro LINKS has been operating successfully for over ten years, but the routing and service changes that are currently being proposed constitute the most significant upgrade to the service since its inception.
After extensive outreach to businesses and in-depth work with transportation experts, a plan was developed to divide the LINKS route into two distinct loops to provide:
- More frequent service with shorter wait times
- Reduced time required for a round-trip ride
- Connections to businesses that previously could not access LINKS, especially those on Marina Boulevard
The north and south loops will shorten wait times to under 15 minutes and reduce the round trip to about 30 minutes. The result will be a much quicker trip to and from the BART station.

The City will also hold an informational meeting on the proposed LINKS service enhancements and the process for re-authorizing the LINKS Business Improvement District on September 10 from 8-9 a.m. The meeting will be held at the Boy Scouts of America Youth Leadership Training Center at 1001 Davis Street.
