Dining Discovery: Yuri’s Taqueria
1269 MacArthur Blvd
San Leandro is home to many hidden treasures when it comes to dining. Some of the city’s best eateries are often small, unassuming places, tucked away in less busy areas of town.
Yuri’s Taqueria took over the space previously occupied by Creasian – Taste of the Himalayas at 1269 MacArthur Boulevard in 2020, during a time when restaurants were struggling due to pandemic restrictions. Perhaps thanks to its quality food and excellent service, Yuri’s has defied the odds and kept its doors open.
The restaurant has ample seating, and a comfortable atmosphere, and the focused menu offers authentic enchiladas, tacos (crispy or traditional), sopes, flautas, tostadas, quesadillas, burritos, menudo, pozole, and birria.
Birria is a Mexican dish from the state of Jalisco: a traditional soup or stew made from a combination of chili pepper-based goat meat adobo, garlic, cumin, bay leaves, and thyme, and cooked at a low heat.
The enchilada and crispy taco platters come with a count of five tacos or enchiladas, making for a great value. In fact, the entire menu is very modestly priced, the food is richly flavored, and customers report the service is fantastic! The neighborhood has embraced this recent arrival. When you are in the neighborhood – stop by!
This being Hispanic-American Heritage month, it seems fitting to celebrate this restaurant that serves traditional Mexican cuisine. Hispanic-owned small businesses have grown by 34% and contributed $500 billion to the U.S. economy over the last 10 years, but even with their growing impact, Hispanic business owners face very real challenges. Score East Bay offers several resources for Hispanic and Latino businesses to help them succeed and stay successful.
